HOW THIS ONE ALL CAME ABOUT...

HOW THIS ONE ALL CAME ABOUT...

HOW THIS ONE ALL CAME ABOUT...

HOW THIS ONE ALL CAME ABOUT...

       e_Lab

e_lab, a project formed in denver by frontman shane etter circa 1997 has had many exciting female guest vocalists over the last few years. this being the seventh album to emerge from the lab, is no different. what is completely different about it is the way it came about; one part electronic collaboration, one part small miracle.

late in the year, etter was contacted via email with a strange message. the writer detailed how she had been checking out and downloading old e_lab tunes, and using some extreme technical web savvy, had wandered into a directory called "no_vox" where she found about 27 tunes, all without vocals. she downloaded all of them, and began writing and recording, completely unbeknownst to the songwriter. the email message continued on about how she finished some of them and really liked the result, and decided to send a couple to etter. the songs were attached in the email, and thus it started...

some of the songs were keepers straight out of the box, others needed some reworking and or re-engineering. but this was indeed an exciting way to work, each person being able to keep their own creative schedule and hours. for some reason, people rarely get waves of creativity at the same time, but since this was a fresh way of working, it piqued at exactly the right time. eventually the two met face to face for some vocal overdubs and more writing. this was quickly completed in only a few weeks; the majority of work already done.

after they were finished recording, they had to sit back and had a laugh; this was an exciting adventure that wasn’t sonically very far from previous e_lab efforts, and although the meeting started without much physical contact at all, the intense chemistry was amazing. so from the complete chaos and randomness of the interaction, emerges an almost coldly calculated sound.
